love at first snow

the.first.snow

there's something so magical about those first baby flakes that fall from the sky

the chilly wind has been whispering their arrival for a few days now

but, yesterday morning, Peach sleepily made her way from bed to the living room where she saw this

her eyes flew open and her shrill "Momma, look!"
made me so glad that we live in a place where sparkly snowflakes settle down and stay for a spell

don't get me wrong...come March, I will DETEST this stuff
and do not ask me to drive in it
but, when it is fresh and looking like a million diamonds blanketing my yard....well, I welcome it.

so, we rushed to the closet, threw on some warm gear
and went out to welcome this year's first glittery flakes

there they are...the little babies that will soon grow into magnificent drifts

autumn leaves meet winter freeze
we have this HUGE tree in our front yard that refuses to give up its leaves until after the first heavy snow.
so, we do our best to rake what we can and the rest just mingles with the white stuff creating a blend of seasons to cover our yard.

it was short-lived as we needed to rush back in to finish our preparations for her party

but this morning, she took great delight in showing off this new treasure to her sister.

tulip's very first snow...
we're not counting the crusty, brown, nasty stuff that was sitting in the ditches last April when she was born.  :)

now tell me - how can a person hate snow when downtown looks like this?

and all this gorgeous-ness just in time for the holidays...

welcome back to Minnesota, snow
we're happy you're here
