I'm a tradition kind of girl. I appreciate those things you can depend on year after year. Especially when life is crazy, its comforting to know that each season will bring those familiar activities and celebrations that return everything back to the way it should be.
So, Hubby and I have been chatting about what our traditions will look like, feel like, smell like.... Now that Peach is getting old enough to understand the concept of holidays and tradition, we want to establish those yearly things that she and her sister will look back on and say,
"That was home."
Making jack-o-lanterns on a beautiful fall day seems like a good place to start.
Those pants - I know, I know. A dear friend commented on how she's probably gonna' look back on these pictures and gag when she sees that print, but its in today and we're all about living in the moment in this house...
...even if she gives me the eye roll about those crazy pants some day.
She loved the way the slimy insides of the pumpkin felt.
It made me wonder what that's like...to experience that feel for the first time.
We're saving the seeds for baking sometime later this week.
Maybe another tradition?
Tulip did her whole being adorable thing and posed for a few pictures. Not much participation for her this year, but I'm sure she'll be all over those gooey insides next year.
Next year...and the next and the next and the next....
That's what I love most about tradition. Its reliable, trustworthy....
Something you can count on.
And in a very uncertain world, we all need things that we can count on.
So we're counting on jack-o-lanterns again next year.
The weather might vary, the location may differ, the clothes will surely change style....but the people will remain the same.
And year after year at just this time of year we will do this together.
There's a whole lot of comfort in that.
I love Peaches crazy pants! She always has the cutest clothes on and I can't believe you found most of them at garage sales. I'm not much of a garage saler, but maybe I should be! And I love the silly bands on Hubby! I love reading your blog posts. They are always so well written and inspirational! You should be a writer!
