boo-ing

With Hubby and I hot on the trail of creating some family traditions, I just couldn't pass up this idea that I saw on another blog.  I'd never heard of "boo-ing" before, but apparently it is the thing to do.

And it was the perfect little project one afternoon when we got home and Tulip needed a nap.

So, we got her settled and dove into our project.

I printed this off the website organizedchristmas.com

The idea is that you print off a few of these, put them in bags with treats and secretly leave them at your neighbors' houses.

Then, they put the sign on their door or in their window and play the trick on two or three other houses.

This keeps going until everyone in the neighborhood has a sign on their house.

We don't have many kids in our neighborhood, so we altered the project just a bit.
Instead of homes in our immediate neighborhood, we decided to create bags for friends in town.

We stuffed the bags with yummy treats.

After Peach had picked out her favorite orange sucker for herself...stinker

decorated the bags with some festive stickers

our favorite salty-sweet fall combo

and then, of course, Peach found some not-so-halloweeny stickers and randomly embellished

got dressed in monster jammies and loaded up the car

Then the fun really began...

This project is suggested for once the sun goes down, but we go to bed around that time and so do our friends, so we got brave and decided to get our "boo" on in broad daylight.

Hubby drove us around town to some of Peach's friends' houses.
We snuck up to their doors and ding-dong-ditched, running like crazy and shrieking all the way!
We breathlessly jumped into the car and drove off before being noticed.

Peach talked about it the rest of the night.  Which, I know, is her way of thanking me for taking the time to make memories with her.

She's worth it.

I'd like to say it was a total success, but not quite.  Things were going just fab until Tulip got antsy in her car seat.  Just as we were heading to the last house, she let her sirens wail and the evening ended in a mad dash to get her to bed.
She's sleeping peacefully now, but it was a bummer to end a fun night that way.

Guess that's what happens when you press your luck on bed time.

Lesson learned.

Next year we'll get her in on the creating, sneaking, creeping and dashing, which will be much more enjoyable for her than looking at the back of the vehicle from her car seat.  :)

At any rate, all's well that ends well.
Consider this the first annual boo-ing...more to come next year.
